Sweet Soulfood on Broad is a good option. It’s vegan, but SO good (I
eat meat and approve) Plus you can get a platter and try several
things.. gumbo, jambalaya, mac & cheese, sweet heat cauliflower
wings.. for less than $20. A weird one being vegan, but authentic and
they change the menu daily.

Frady’s for hot plate meals and po boys. They’re cash only. Jamaican
Jerk House does a great lunch special. Hanks for fried chicken. $5
glasses of wine at Faubourg Wines. Rosalita’s backyard tacos is
inexpensive. Slap Burgers at Marie’s. Check out the pop ups and Anna’s
and Pepps and Parleaux. Hit up the food vendors in the neutral ground
near Allways and Hi Ho.

Honestly if you’re looking for cheap authentic you gotta find one of
them shell stations that sell hot food.the racetrack and circle k don’t
count.the only recommendation I will give you is highway fried
chicken.its not exactly in New Orleans it’s just outside no parish in
Harahan and it’s the best fried chicken in town.i just like to let
everyone know.its also way cheaper than popeyes

Visited recently for a short trip and The Bombay Club(in an off street
pocket in the Quarter) had a pretty good happy hour. I'm vegetarian and
had an amazing vegan muffaletta at Breads on Oak(in the Business
district I think). Had a pretty good sandwich at Veri Marte(Quarter)
and they are open 24hours I think. I wasnt super impressed with my
vegetarian bowl but my friend liked their food at Wakin Bakin. Also,
had a pretty good coffee and pastry at Twelfth Night Coffee. I thought
the beignets were a little too dense at the Quarter Cafe Du Monde.

Everyone below gave really good recommendations on restaurants. I would
also like to add that you should try to avoid dine in restaurants as
much as you can so you don't have to pay tip. Self-service restaurants
and take out only if you can.
